Adding Google Analytics to Your Site in WashU Sites

If you created a new website with WashU Sites, or your existing website didn’t have Google Analytics, you will need to set up an account with Google Analytics before following the steps to add Google Analytics tracking to your website. If your site is not hosted on WashU Sites, you can add Google Analytics tracking to your site using the Yoast plugin.

Adding Google Analytics Tracking to Your Site

  1. Log in to your Google Analytics account.
  2. At the top of the page, click Admin.
  3. Under Account in the column on the left, select your account from the drop-down.
  4. Click on User Management.
  5. Under Add permissions for:, enter “wustlweb@gmail.com.”
  6. Click Add.

  7. At the top of the page, click Admin again.
  8. Under Property in the second column, select your site name from the drop-down.
  9. Click Tracking Info under Property and select Tracking Code from the list.

  10. On the Tracking Code page, your code will be displayed under the label Tracking ID; it should be similar to: UA-######-##. Copy this entire Tracking ID.

  11. In your site’s Dashboard, go to Settings > Google Analytics.
  12. In the text box next to Site Tracking Code, enter the Tracking ID you copied from Google Analytics.
  13. Click Save Changes.

  14. Within a day or so, log in to your Google Analytics account to check that data is being collected. You should see “sessions” (i.e., visits) being reported as of the date you set up your account. Going forward, you can log in to Google Analytics any time to see how your site is performing.
