Using the Text + Action Widget

The Text + Action widget allows users to add text, video, images, custom lists, call-to-action buttons and more to the sidebar and footer of WordPress sites. It is one of many widgets that the WashU Web Theme offers.

To open and edit the Text Widget:

  1. Go to Appearance > Widgets.
  2. Click on the Text + Action widget, select the sidebar or footer where you’d like to use it and click Add Widget.

  3. Click the down arrow to the right of the widget title.
  4. Set the widget title (optional).
  5. Add the text or HTML code to the box. The text widget can hold a variety of HTML, XHTML and multimedia links and players such as video and object embeds.
  6. Choose the option to Automatically add paragraphs to wrap each block of text in an HTML paragraph tag (recommended for text).
  7. (Optional) Under Link Text, add the text that you would like to appear on the button. Rather than using “Click Here,” employ active language that is descriptive of the action, like “Learn More” or “Explore.”
  8. (Optional) Under Link URL, add the full URL (including http://) to which you would like to send the user.
  9. Click Save to save the text widget.
  10. Click Close to close the text widget.
  11. Switch tabs in your browser and preview the results. Make changes if necessary.
